If you’ve hit a lull, it’s a great time to slow down and really focus on your cutting. Have a solid plan for every cut, start to finish. Reduce the size of your sections. Keep your partings clean and knife-sharp. Don’t cut until you can clearly see your previous guideline. Think carefully about the angle of your fingers, shears and the position of your body. Study the hair as you go and make necessary adjustments. Cross-check continuously. Once you’re finished, dry the hair and then go back and fine-tune, texturize, detail, etc. If you’ve been rushing through your cuts, take the time to “live” in each one and you’ll remember why you love doing hair!
